NORTH MANHATTAN (formerly known as El Porto)

North Manhattan is an area within the Sand Section of Manhattan Beach which historically has been North of 38^th Street to 45^th with the boundary on the East being Crest. Many of the homes in this part of town are on half lots (30’x45’). El Porto is probably the only community in the state that was almost totally developed with two residential units filling each of its tiny lots, with no room for yards. For over six decades, this small seaside town was a county island that was part of the El Segundo Unified School District.  In November 1980, the unincorporated town of El Porto, was annexed from the County of Los Angeles by Manhattan Beach.
